Willamette Week Special Sections

From 2017 to 2018 I worked for Portland’s longest-running alt-weekly newspaper, Willamette Week, as the Special Sections Art Director.

WW’s Special Sections are glossy magazines that go in-depth into various aspects of Portland’s culture. From beer to restaurants to weed to the iconic Finder Magazine, I designed and art-directed over a year of magazines, seeking out and collaborating with talented photographers and illustrators.

Along with all of the editorial design, I also wrote briefs for photographers and illustrators, worked alongside photographers in the studio or on-site at shoots, and managed delivery timelines for writers that allowed editorial content to flow into the art department and keep to a rigorous publishing schedule.

Finder 2018–2019 was a collaboration between myself, magazine editor Lauren Yoshiko, and many other contributors to celebrate the history of Portland as it relates to the city’s current cultural offerings—from food and beverage to shopping to entertainment to recreation of all flavors. Finder is THE Portland guidebook and yearbook all-in-one.
